For Parents

Parents: Want to teach life-affirming values to your kids? Being a parent is a noble, rewarding, difficult, challenging and unending role. It comes with many blessings and much heartache. And that’s when they are still toddlers! Once our children become pre-teens, teenagers or young adults, parenting them requires herculean faith, fortitude and humor in order for both them and us to survive.
Anglicans for Life doesn’t pretend to have all the answers needed to raise perfect kids, but we do want you to benefit from all the links, resources, data, information and connections we have made over the years in seeking to help our kids as well as others. Below are different categories containing stuff we think you’ll find helpful for various circumstances you might find yourself or your teens facing. It is important to recognize two important truths as parents – first, God the Father created each of our children for His purposes and glory, therefore he knows them and understands their needs better than we do, and we need His help to raise them. And second, the earlier we seek to instill the basic concepts of; a love for God, respect for life, and a value of who they are as children of God, the easier it is for these truths to become part of their DNA when they face challenges later in life.

Today, we are embroiled in a national debate about how to handle sexual behavior related to teens and adolescents.  In a surprising upheaval of logic, there are “sexperts” who cannot find any line in the sand at all to dictate a time when sex is absolutely, unequivocally and irrevocably inappropriate for young people.

The following appeared in the Op-Ed section of the New York Times May 19, 2006.  It appears here with the permission of the author. Editor’s Note:  While NOEL does not completely agree with the author’s first two sentences, this article makes a valid point that we felt deserves further consideration by those of us who support abstinence until marriage.

Warning:  The following article contains graphic and disturbing content inappropriate for children about addressing sexual behavior among our youth.

Pope Benedict XVI states that sex education must be replaced by education in marriage and family; love and truth must replace statistics and risks. Children beg for guidance. Prayer For Life

PRAYER FOR LIFE Lord God, thank you for creating human life in your image. Thank you for my life and the lives of those I love. Thank you for teaching us through Scripture the value you place on life. Help me to uphold the sanctity of life in my church and community. Give me the strength to stand up to those forces
that seek to destroy the lives of those most vulnerable,
the unborn, the infirm and the elderly. Today I commit myself never to be silent, never to be passive, never to be forgetful of respecting life. I commit myself to protecting and defending the sacredness of life
according to Your will, through Christ our Lord.
Amen.   Anglicans for Life 405 Frederick Avenue Sewickley, PA  15143
