We want to prevent abortions and we need your help!
Anglicans for Life wants to prevent abortions and we need your help! Mother’s Day is fast approaching and there is a group of mothers that is often overlooked on this special day – Birth Mothers. Birth mothers are women who give birth to their babies and then place them with adoptive families.
Anglicans for Life encourages you to incorporate birth mothers into your liturgy and prayers on Mother’s Day. You may even want to invite a birth mother to share her story during the service to honor her for the courage to sacrifice herself by giving birth, then placing her child with a family. This is a very selfless act and by honoring her, you will send a positive adoption message to other women and girls in the congregation who may be dealing with an unexpected pregnancy and considering abortion either now or in the future.
Anglicans for Life has found that most adoptions in the last ten years have tried to honor and empower the birth mother through the adoption process, but afterwards these women often feel abandoned and ignored. As the Church, we need to help them afterwards. It may be by honoring them or by performing a pastoral visit that acknowledges their feelings and encourages them to grieve the loss of their child.
For some of the women who participated in adoption prior to the mid 80’s, there is still unresolved pain and anger from having their children taken from them without their consent. Since that time we have become more sensitive to the mothers’ rights.
