Israel’s Chief Rabbis sent a letter to all of the nation’s rabbis urging them to teach on the "biblical prohibition to kill fetuses in their mothers' wombs."  Yona Metzger and Shlomo Amar also called on the Israeli public to fight the “abortion epidemic” in the country.

Israel's Chief Rabbis Yona Metzger and Shlomo Amar called on the Israeli public on Monday to fight the "abortion epidemic" in the country.

In a letter sent to all rabbis countrywide, the chief rabbis cited this week's Torah portion from Exodus that tells of the Hebrew midwives who refused Pharaoh's edict to kill all newborn males by casting them into the Nile.

Rabbis Metzger and Amar asked the nation's spiritual leaders to teach on the "biblical prohibition to kill fetuses in their mothers' wombs."

Three years ago, the Chief Rabbinate formed a committee to fight the estimated 50,000 abortions taking place in Israel each year. Jewish law prohibits abortions except in extreme circumstances when the mother is in danger of losing her life.

"The Chief Rabbinate of Israel is appalled by this horrifying data, indicating that this is a true epidemic costing the lives of dozens of Jewish souls every year," the chief rabbis wrote.

Prayer For Life

PRAYER FOR LIFE Lord God, thank you for creating human life in your image. Thank you for my life and the lives of those I love. Thank you for teaching us through Scripture the value you place on life. Help me to uphold the sanctity of life in my church and community. Give me the strength to stand up to those forces
that seek to destroy the lives of those most vulnerable,
the unborn, the infirm and the elderly. Today I commit myself never to be silent, never to be passive, never to be forgetful of respecting life. I commit myself to protecting and defending the sacredness of life
according to Your will, through Christ our Lord.
Amen.   Anglicans for Life 405 Frederick Avenue Sewickley, PA  15143
