In her letter to the editor, Georgette sites statistics and illegal practices that reveal the reality about Planned Parenthood's operations in light of the defunding discussions.
Dear Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Editor,
Dick Scaife’s [Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Sunday, February 27, 2011]description of Planned Parenthood’s beneficial services is based on theory not reality.
The reality is that:
In 2009, PP performed 332,278 abortions, the highest number ever, and an increase of 2.5 percent over 2008.
In 2009 they provided pre-natal services to just 7,021 women.
In 2009, PP made just 977 adoption referrals.
In other words, 97.6 percent of pregnant women going to Planned Parenthood are sold abortions while less than 2.4 percent of pregnant women received non-abortion services including adoption and prenatal care.
Despite its protestations that abortion is only a small part of its services, Planned Parenthood has increased its number of abortions for 15 straight years. During that time, it has gone from committing 9.3 percent of all abortions in the United States to committing 27.5 percent.
Furthermore, undercover videos shot by Live Action and Students for Life in the past 3 years have proven that Planned Parenthood covers up the rape of minors, that they lie to women about what an abortion really does, they promote the illegal practice of infanticide, and that they accept donations for abortions from racists. Recently 7 more videos were released featuring Planned Parenthood employees aiding actors who were posing as human sex traffickers. In some of the footage, the Planned Parenthood workers even offer suggestions as to how the traffickers can skirt the law and get contraception and abortions for underage girls and how the girls can continue to work immediately after their abortion.
And after two years of delay, a case with 107 charges including 23 felonies for allegedly violating state law against Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri has finally moved forward. The charges, initially filed by former state attorney general Phill Kline, allege the abortion business potentially engaged in illegal abortions and violated state record-keeping laws and rape reporting laws.
Planned Parenthood received $349.6 million in taxpayer funding (government grants and contracts) in 2008, and at the end of the year had $85 million in profits.
If the above information does not help Mr. Scaife understand the reality of Planned Parenthood’s operations, I urge him to visit SilentNoMoreAwareness.org/plannedparenthood and read comments from the women who have actually used PP’s services.
I’m sure Margaret Sanger would be shocked to know the organization she created has morphed into a business that is more interested in profits than the women they are supposed to serve.
Respectfully,
Georgette Forney, President of Anglicans for Life, Sewickley, Pennsylvania
P.S. According to data reported on PP’s website 54% of women using birth-control experience unintended pregnancies while taking the pill.
