Number of pregnancies plummeted during the 1990s in the US.
The National Center for Health Statistics reports the number of U.S. pregnancies in 1996 fell half a million from its 1990 peak, dropping to the lowest rate in two decades. There were a total of 6,240,000 pregnancies in 1996.

- 22% ended in abortion (1,221,585 )
- 16% were miscarried
