Americans United for Life, a pro-life group, released its national ranking of states in the U.S. based on bioethics topics and laws.
Americans United for Life, a pro-life group that works with state legislators to pass pro-life laws, has released its fifth annual national ranking of states based on bioethics topics and laws the states have approved limiting abortions as much as the Supreme Court has allowed.
Michigan is in the lead for the third time. Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Kansas topped the list. South Dakota, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Virginia rounded out the top ten. On the bottom end of the scale, Oregon, which has the only law legalizing assisted suicide, placed last with California, Connecticut, New Jersey, Vermont and Hawaii finishing in the bottom.
Among the laws that AUL looks for are informed consent, parental involvement for minors, abortion facility regulations, and abortion funding limits. In states that have passed these types of laws, the abortion rates have declined by up to 20% over the past 10 years.
